THE IMPORTANCE OF BNB TRAINED CLEANERS

Must-have items:

  • Broom, mop and vacuum cleaner
  • Various cleaning solutions, including window cleaner, bleach and disinfectant
  • Toilet brush next to each toilet
  • Hammers, screwdrivers, nails and screws, pliers, channel locks and adjustable spanners
  • Thread seal tape for quick plumbing repairs
  • Wood glue
  • Liquid drain unblocker
  • Extra batteries for smoke detectors and TV remotes
  • Light bulbs, including appliance bulbs
  • Duct tape

Other areas:

  • Check that the washer and dryer are empty; clean out lint trap
  • Check light bulbs and change if necessary
  • Wipe off patio set and clean barbecue
  • Replace the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Clean windows
  • Wash all curtains, blinds and other window coverings

Bathrooms:

  • Clean, scrub and sanitise showers, bathtubs, sinks and backsplashes

  • Clean and sanitise toilets
  • Polish taps and bath linings

  • Replenish liquid hand soap
  • Supply clean linens: two hand towels, two bath towels and four facecloths per guest, plus one shower mat

  • Change sheets and pillowcases
  • Hoover floor and under beds
  • Wipe and check for personal belongings left in drawers and closets
  • Dust furniture and clean mirrors
  • Check windows for fingerprints
  • Make sure light bulbs are not burnt out
  • Check for wear and tear or stains on sheets and blankets
  • Wash blankets and comforters after every ten rentals

Living Room:

  • Sweep, vacuum and wash floors
  • Dust windowsills and ledges
  • Dust furniture, blinds, picture frames, knick-knacks, ceiling fans and lamps
  • Vacuum carpets and furniture and wash floor
  • Check sofa bed for dirty linens (and leave clean linens for the sofa bed)
  • Wash windows on sliding glass doors
  • Empty and clean bins

Kitchen:

  • Clean appliances, counters, cabinets, table and chairs
  • Clean, scrub, and sanitise sinks, countertops and backsplashes
  • Clean hob and wipe out inside of oven
  • Clean appliance exteriors, including the inside of toaster and coffee maker
  • Clean inside and outside of refrigerator and microwave
  • Wash floor
  • Empty dishwasher
  • Restock washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, coffee filters and bin bags
  • Put out clean tea towels, and a new dish rag/sponge

Remember: A home that is clean enough for you to live in is not necessarily ‘clean’ enough for paying travellers to stay in. It’s important

to keep all these differences in mind when you hire a professional cleaner, who may only be familiar with cleaning private residences.

When dealing with your housekeepers and cleaning staff, it’s best to be as specific as possible and have a clearly defined list of duties;

then, post a written version of your cleaning checklist somewhere easily accessible, such as the inside of a closet door.
